Old Czechoslovak hockey puck Buffalo Sabres, made by Vegum in the 1980
The company Vegum, founded in the 1950s in Dolné Vestenice, Slovakia, began producing hockey pucks in the 1970s. It manufactures 4 to 6 million pucks annually, with two-thirds exported overseas, including to the NHL.
In the 1980s, Vegum produced official NHL hockey pucks, including those featuring the Buffalo Sabres logo. These pucks were marked with the inscription “Czechoslovakia” and are now considered collector’s items.
